One of the biggest misconceptions in beauty is that more money equals better quality. This could not be farther from the truth! Truth is, there are plenty of amazing products which come at an affordable drugstore price. That being said, there are definitely some high end make up which is worth the money. Some products are just so unique in themselves that there may be similar products for a cheaper price, but it is worth the splurge to buy the real thing.
I’m all about a good budget find when it comes to beauty (if you’re interested in seeing some of my favourites I’ll list some related blog posts for you to check out below!) but this post is going to be all about high end makeup which is worth the money.

If you haven’t tried cream bronzer before, this is the one you should be starting with. The Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel is such a great starting bronzer because it is easy to blend, the most beautiful bronze tone, and lasts for so long. In all honesty, I didn’t love product at first. I had heard everyone rave about it but it was patchy and not working for me until a few weeks ago when I tried a different brush. That was the secret for this product.
PRO TIP: To get the best results with this bronzer you’re going to want to apply it with a dense brush. This is my favourite brush to use for apply this bronzer.
Another product which I didn’t love at first, but with a change of application fell deeply, madly obsessed with! I started off using the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Foundation with a brush, as that was what I had seen everyone else receive the best results with. With a brush, it is beautiful but left a heavier feeling and look on my skin then I typically like. I switched to a beauty sponge as a final try before putting it in the return pile and OH MY GOSH am I ever glad I tried it this way. The beauty sponge gave the most full coverage, flawless, yet natural looking finish to the skin. This is a foundation with a learning curve to it but once you’ve figured it out it’s beautiful.
PRO TIP: When selecting your colour keep in mind it oxidizes (changes colour on the skin post application). If you can test it in stores, apply a tester spot on and let it sit on the skin for at least 5 minutes. If you’re buying online (which is what I did with no issues) Sephora has the colour matching app on their site which is great, and the photos on the actual product page has the application and oxidization colour to help you see what it will do.
Prior to trying out the Hourglass Vanish Concealer I had been using the e.l.f Cosmetics 16 hour Wear Camo Concealer and loving it. I wasn’t convinced that a price difference of almost $50 would be apparent in the product but gave it a try anyway (I’m a curious mind haha). I tried this concealer along side of the e.l.f camo concealer for a week. It was applied on it’s own (no powder), with a finger and a brush, with powder, with a full face of makeup, and then with a natural face of a makeup. Each time this concealer held up beautifully. While the e.l.f concealer is great if you’re on a budget, there is a noticeable different in the Hourglass concealer that I HIGHLY suggest trying it if you can. The Hourglass concealer is full coverage, natural finish, hydrating formula, and does not crease at all under the eyes. It has all the best features for a full face of makeup but does wonders on it’s own in a more natural look. 10/10 recommend for this one!
PRO TIP: Less is more with this product. Use a small amount to get the most natural look and prevent creasing.
$32 for a lipstick.. My jaw dropped to the floor when I saw the price tag on this Milk Makeup Lipstick after looking it up. What could possibly make a lipstick so good that it’s worth spending the $32 (Canadian!) on it. Well after months of using it, I can promise you this lipstick is worth the price tag. To start with, the brand is a vegan and clean ingredients makeup brand so you can be confident the product you’re putting on your lips is not containing any harmful chemicals. Next, the packaging feels sturdy and luxurious with the metal container and magnetic closure. To finish it off, the product it’s self is undeniably great. It has a light feel, almost undetectable, yet it maintains a full coverage colour with minimal product. This was something I was not expecting! It lasts for a while on the lips and the wear is soft and it fades beautifully as it’s worn so you aren’t left with patchy colour. My go to colour is Skillz which is a warm nude pink toned lipstick, perfect for a natural look or a full glam!
PRO TIP: Use this with a slightly darker nude lip liner for a plump looking lip combo!
