The Ordinary Skincare Review: First Impressions

Hello, blogging world and friends, oh how I have MISSED you!!

I went back to work full time in May after my mat leave was up and BOY was that a transition I was not prepared for. It started off well, I went back part time for the first month, but once I got back to a full time schedule, working mom life hit me like a ton of bricks. Slowly, but surely, I’m finding my groove again and I have some great new content being prepared to come out.

First on the list, my first impressions on The Ordinary Skincare products. I’ve recently gotten back into eyelash extensions (and loving them, might I add) and I realized all my skincare products at the time contained oils in them. A HUGE no-no for lash extensions (it breaks down the adhesive = no more lash extensions, very quickly). I saw this as an excuse to try out a new brand I’d had my eye on 😉

The Ordinary is an extremely affordable skincare line with the widest selection of products you can imagine. Any problem areas you want to correct, they have a product for you. It’s almost overwhelming the selection they have!

Here’s where I was starting with my skin:

  • Skin Type: Combination, more oily with dry patches occasionally
  • Skin Concerns: Anti-aging, blemishes, texture, redness
  • Goal: Clear blemishes, firm skin, brighten, even out texture

This post is just my first impression of the product, but once I’ve had the chance to test them out, I’ll be filming a whole video on it so be on the look out for that next month!

Without further ado, let’s get into it!

The Products

To fill up my skincare routine I picked up The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA ($6.70 CAD @ Sephora), The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 ($6.80 CAD @ Sephora), and The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA ($7.70 CAD @ Sephora). The Ordinary products are only available online.

One of my biggest concerns in my skin were the constant breakouts and tiny little textured bumps that were always on my face, even when I had no active breakouts. I had tried the Drunk Elephant T.L.C Framboos serum and loved it, but the price range was not in my budget. I opted for the Lactic Acid because after reading reviews on the Sephora website, everyone claimed that this cleared up their texture and blemishes and many compared it to the Drunk Elephant product I loved so much!

First impression of it was it went on really easily, dried down quickly, and had almost no smell to it (huge bonus). It tingled slightly after applying (very very minimally) but I enjoy that in my skincare products that are supposed to clear up my skin. It makes me feel like it working! The next morning my skin was significantly smoother with any blemishes I had being noticeably smaller. I was really happy with this product right away.

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5

While my skin is more oily than dry, I do get random dry patches on my face which need some seriously lovin’ otherwise they flare up pretty quickly. I also am a firm believer that a well hydrated face is less oily.

The Hyaluronic acid is something I’ve never used before in any other product so I don’t have a lot to compare it to but first impression, it was more viscous than I expected and didn’t sink in to the skin as quickly as I thought it would. That being said, I am still head over heals for this product! Within a half hour of applying it, my skin is glowing and radiant looking plump and hydrated, just like I like it to. It sits beautifully under makeup and feels really refreshing and hydrating on the skin. I can tell this product will be even more loved during the dry, winter months.

The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA

I was the most nervous about this one because I have tried countless moisturizers and 95% of them fall short for me. I am so picky when it comes to moisturizer. I like mine to feel hydrating instantly, leave a slightly oily feel to skin once applied (like that I have naturally hydrated skin look),and sit well under makeup. When I applied The Ordinary Moisturizer I knew I was going to like it. It checked off all the boxes and left my skin looking better than it has with any of the high end moisturizers I’ve used in the past. This product is one I could use alone or with the other products and it would still feel great, all depending on what skin concerns I had that day.

Final Verdict of First Impression

I am a self proclaimed skincare junkie and so my standards are set reeeaaal high. I am IN LOVE with The Ordinary products so far. My first impression is they check all the boxes I was hoping for and exceeded the hundred dollar products similar to them, by far. They met and blew my expectations out of the water and I cannot wait to see what they do for my skin over the next couple of weeks. I paid $32 after shipping and taxes for all these products and it has been the best $32 I’ve spent in a long time!! You can’t go wrong with this price point so I highly recommend trying them out for yourself.

Stay tuned for a full video next month all about these products after a few weeks of use.

Have a great rest of your day, friends and don’t forget to head on over and follow my Instagram page for more up to date reviews and info 🙂

💕 LONG POST ALERT- but worth the read💕 Last night, after the babe had gone to bed, Bryn and I sat outside on the balcony and took the time to connect and align ourselves for the rest of the week. We talked about where our heads were at, what we wanted to achieve in the near future, and we worked through any mental blocks we were going through. It's like soul food, talking through your big goals, and I have yet to come away from one of our talks feeling like I didn't realize something new. Bryn made a suggestion that I truly think cracks the code of not only blogging and social media, but in all aspects of life. He said "I think you should take a break from the numbers and just focus on creating content that truly makes you happy and serves other people. Just worry about the stuff that made you start blogging in the first place- the connections and creativity- and I think the rest will fall into place". Wise man, right? It really made everything click. It is so easy to get caught up in the numbers and algorithms and while yes, they are important, they should not be what drives your decisions in life. They are the results, not the driving power, of success. If you are doing things strictly because of the passion you have for it, then you are already successful, regardless of the numbers. So, I have decided that from now on everything I do will be driven by two things- because I love it and because it serves others. No number games, no algorithms, none of that, because in the end if you don't truly love what you're doing and it isn't helping anyone, is it even worth it? . . . #pursuepretty #momgoals #joyfulmamas #honestmommy #motherhoodinspired #mommy #motherhoodatitsfinest #dailyparenting #motherhoodmoments #everythingtribe #bestofmom #thehappynow #mommyandme #thatsdarling #momsofinstagram #family #ig_motherhood #momswithcameras #momblogger #teammotherly #mommyblogger #unitedinmotherhood #documentyourdays #ottawablogger #ottawamom #momlife #whatiwore #ottawa #myottawa #igersottawa
