I know we all want to look our best every day.
I also know that nobody wants to get up at 4 am to make this happen.
I will be the first to say it, you shouldn’t have to sacrifice your sleep for looking good. But now that I only get sleep in 2-3 hour chunks at a time, I found myself at a crossroads. Do I want to go out everyday looking like I’ve just come back from the dead? Or do I suck it up and wake up even earlier than I already do to to put makeup on and look human again?
Neither of these solutions were okay with me. So, I’m going to share with you my secrets to being able to confidently walk out of the house without the worry of people asking who designs the bags under your eyes or sacrificing your much needed beauty sleep.
It doesn’t have to be a crazy 10 step process that costs more than your rent. But it does have to work. This can take some trial and error, but you’ll know when you’ve found the right combo for you. The better your skin looks, the less makeup you’ll have to wear!
The three things you’ll want to have in your skincare routine are:
- A cleanser that fits your current skin needs. I’ve been loving the Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel.
- A moisturizer that is suitable for your skin type. Everyone needs a moisturizer (even you, oily skin girls!) because without it your skin will either be tight and flaky, or extremely oily due to your skin trying to overcompensate for the lack of moisture in it. I’ve been using the St.Ives Renewing Collagen Elastin Moisturizer and LOVING it. You also can’t go wrong with the price point of under $10.
- Last but not least, an eye cream. I have never been one to get into eye creams, until recently. There are so many different types of eye creams on the market now, all claiming to do different things. I personally find my self drawn to the hydrating eye creams. This is going to rejuvenate your under eyes, get rid of the hollow look, and give you a nice glow which will make you look brighter and more awake. I prefer an eye cream that has a lighter consistency to it, but that part is personal preference. My current favorite has been the Dr Dennis Gross Hyaluronic Marine Dew It All Eye Gel.
This is not a step that I do everyday but if I’m leaving the house I try to because I feel it just adds that extra push towards feeling and looking put together. For this I suggest picking a couple of items that you feel are the most important to you. For myself that’s bronzer, mascara, and eyebrows and sometimes concealer and a tinted moisturizer. These are the things that I think make the most difference with the least amount of effort. They’re also the steps that I can do the fastest without having to put too much time into making them look good (bonus: I’m also able to do them one handed! #momlife).
This is the one step that I feel is the “make or break” to looking put together. If your hair is messy but your makeup is done, it can look like you ran out of time. But if your hair is done and your makeup is not, it just looks like you’re confident in your skin! Doing your hair doesn’t necessarily mean spending hours with heat tools styling it. It just means finding a way to style your hair so it looks like you put the time into it. This was something I actually made a point of doing closer to my due date before having Rhys. I knew that I’d be so uncomfortable if I went into labor and my hair was not done (can you say high maintenance?) So I made a point every time I washed my hair to style it, just in case I went into labor!
